Handling the Tools:
It is important that the tools should always be clean and sharp. We can do our work more quickly with a sharp knife, the danger of injury is lessened. We should be aware of the time during which the different disinfectants take their effect as well as their dilution rate.
Sharpening and maintaining the tools:
Tools are made of carbon steel so they require constant maintenance over the cutting edge.
- Sharpening on honing stone: we sharpen over the cutting edge of knife in order to improve the knife burr.
- Sharpening on polar wood or honing felt: we sharpen over the back of the cutting edge.
- Maintenance: if we store the tool for a long time, anoint it with vaseline and wrap it up in silk- paper.
