Important rule: deal with only those parts of the body that are exempt from inflammation and infection.
Disqualifying reason: if the nail or skin of the guest is sick; illnesses caused by virus and bacterium, „erysipelas”, ingrown, inflamed nail, purulent, fungous nail.
We do not work with burnt, frozen or broken nails!
Phases of the preparation:
- During registration: We are informed about the demands of the guest and agree on a time and place.
- Preparation: Sterilization, diagnosis.
In order to avoid infections the most important phase of hand and foot care is sterilization.
We have to sterilize our appliances before each and every guest, then our hands, and those of the guest, as well.
We always have to work with clear, sterilized tool or disposable implements!
It has to be taken seriously and guests should be informed that the preliminary sterilization has already been made.
It is advisable to wash hands with the guest and not let him/her do it alone. It is recommended to use „hygienic hand – antiseptic” products instead of traditional soap. If the guest did not wash his/her hands properly we can scrub them with hand cleaner and antiseptic gel which does not require water.
Dry the guest’s hand (or foot) with a clean towel.
However, these do not substitute for complex skin-antiseptic products which have antibacterial, antifungal and at the same time, antiviral effects.
(We should not forget that the guest is a good observer and notices if we do not sterilize our hands).
We can seat our guest only at a clear, sterilized table with tools.
We should use new and clean towels or paper towels for each guest.
Sit comfortably, draw the chair under ourselves, support our back and straighten ourselves when using a kneeling chair.
Take care that our guest sits comfortably, too.
Other process of preparation is diagnosis:
During this we have to gather all necessary information for our work.
Examine the hand and the nail of guest, even from beneath, and decide whether we can work on it and if so, how.
What will be the suitable material and technique, optimal or some different nail building technique should be applied. We have to find out whether there is some deviation which affects our work (e.g. deformed nail).
If so, we discuss the work that differs from optimal, as well as its consequences, with the guest in advance.
We adjust the wish of the guest to our professional opinion.
We make inquiries about what conditions the nail will be exposed to.
We make a record of all the necessary information on the guest’s card and inform him/her (in case of new guest) about the phases of process he/she will be exposed to (e.g.sensation of heat when using gel).
We draw the guest’s attention to all the information about the maintenance then we record the next date of treatment and work to be done.
Maintenance of the tools:
Regarding hand tools, the knives, lens, grafting-knives, chisels and spears have to be sharpened to keep them in good condition.
It is always important to sterilize the tools before sharpening.
Sharpening has to be made on honing stones or honing straps.
In case of scissors it is required that an expert does the sharpening.
After sharpening we have to sterilize again and, since the remaining chemicals may cause corrosion, it is required to dry the surface properly.
Keep the tools in a well-locked case made for this purpose when we store or carry them so that accidents may be avoided.
Any other tools have to be sterilized and cleaned in accordance with their directions for use.
After sterilization it is required to give enough time to dry before placing the tools in the locked cases.
